hello sexy beautiful people. i have been slowly adding to a draft of this post over the course of the month but since i'm not going home this thanksgiving might as well spend the time to write this out!! finally finishing this on dec 4th but this was written in bits and pieces ever since thanksgiving break.

watching
  • YOU - only made it up til episode 5 but i binged all four episodes i did watch (and will probably be all i watch) in like a weekend at the beginning of this month. this show is funny... in a way where it's like. LOL ik to most people this is meant to be satire or extreme but NO straight men really are just like that. truly the whole point of the thing is penn badgley being hot and that isn't entirely true for me which is why im not finishing it but. i see why my irls like it... men who want to wolfpack u </3
  • GBBO - giuseppe and chrystelle(sp?) i am so happy for u. jurgen begone...
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel - good movie but like the scene with the c*t d-wording and the fingers were such a tonal shift that i found it rly off-putting. also WOW was that saoirse ronan? didnt know she was in this.
  • love hard - my friend wanted to watch this and we didnt finish it because i found it off putting but i just wanted to note when she said "how fast do u think jimmy o yang said yes to this script LOL"
  • Pride and Prejudice - i didnt finish the movie i got an hour in and then i was invited out to party. what can i say im #crazy. when i told my portuguese prof that tho she was like "oh so u didnt like it?" and no i DID kiera knightley is beautiful but why was there so much tension btwn her and the old lady's sickly daughter... that's all i remember... UDPATE I FINISHED THE MOVIE. THE SCENE IN THE RAIN. THE FACT THAT HE DOESNT KISS HER. PERFECT!!!!!! personally *i* would NAWT be able to resist kissing kiera knightley... the 'mrs. darcy' part too... so beautiful movie...
  • paris is burning - watched this bc the college was showing it and i never had. the theatre was empty. this is rly one of those documentaries that make u mourn i think, but also grateful for the fact that u are alive at all. the next day i read bell hook's essay on the film and it put things in a very different perspective but ultimately. octavia saint laurent...
  • in the mood for love - another film that i wanted to see for a very long time that will also stay with me for a very long time. tony leung... MAGGIE CHEUNG... for [reasons] this also reflects my current love life AND i watched it on the night of the taurus blood moon so i was like emotional for real for real... that one scene where he's in his office and the smoke rises will stay with me for a long time it was really beautiful and reminded me of so many things. EUGH the ending too. i wish i could be a film critic but instead im just *head in hands...
  • selling sunset - only allowing myself to watch one episode a week to prevent brainmelting. HOW IS CHRISTINE STANDING IN THOSE HEELS 9 MOS PREGNANT???
  • louise (gobelins) - i just saw this by chance on thanksgiving day and it made me tear up. i have a lot of conflicting feelings about womanhood and this brought a lot of them to the fore on an evening when i was already thinking many thoughts. i do recommend it. i need to speak to more old women. unfortunate that i found this youtube channel literally immediately after they released some nfts tho that's miserable actually.

listening
  • MAGDALENA BAY!!! - they are the moment. they get it. secrets (your fire) is my favorite i think but i like the whole album so much...

  • jeong sewoon - weirdly i forgot he existed for years but i created a habit of listening to him on the 15 min walk to my 7pm class on tuesdays... in the dark is a really good easy listening song.

  • tswift - i was a taylor swift hater growing up. i am not in on the lore. however, for 85% of the people in my life now her music was pretty fundamental to their middle school identities and music tastes. on the day that the all too well short film was released my friends made me watch it 4 times. i listened to folklore but not evermore over my gap year... the sad girl autumn of all too well is an excellent shower song.

  • maverick - the boyz are my only kpop boys now. i am so disappointed they didn't do an nct127 limitless rough/dance style two mv thing... but also they dont have sm money igetit... i think the concept and photos are super fun and hyunjae looks so good beat up <3 but the song is mildly garbage and i havent listened to the rest of the album since. pains me physically that they gave haknyeon that awful little 'swayze' line and so little else.

  • irgenwie irgenwo irgenwann - i learned on thanksgiving day that this song has an english version so i findally understand the lyrics and i have to say. Perfect Song Of All Time. *the drums from the intro and then the synths start playing...

reading
  • the hare with amber eyes - WOW this guy can write. if u told me that a memoir-adjacent story about a british jewish guy's family heirloom of japanese pottery was gonna be one of the best books i read this year i would not have believed u. i'm very much someone who operates through memory [and i have a lot of familial lore myself] so this was such like. idk i think the coolest thing about me other than de waal's prose and ability to capture/describe history and beauty in this really wistful way... is just the fact that he's even comfortable sharing this with the world. like that's so cool to me. the way i see it it's a like a confidence that this story [his family story] is worth telling and actually matters so it's not weird or cringe that he's making a whole book out of it. if i could feel that way about my own history that would be so cool. [N would probably relate this to the privilege white narratives have in the world but i dont wanna think about that rn LOL] and also the way this is such an act of love for ppl in his family in the future...

  • pride and prejudice - i am on page 15 and i think i might have to get a new copy because the way the words are aligned on the page is just. Not facilitating this process...

  • learning from las vegas - read to impress the professor im trying to make my Mentor For Real. architectural theory books are still kind of hard for me because i feel like im missing 75% of the context, but this one was really interesting. an argument that yeah urban sprawl is bad and ugly and so on so forth but the truth is that laypeople [feels weird to use this word but u guys get me...] LIKE the idea of suburbia and so instead of just denouncing the new american strip mall vernacular what can we learn from it? what are its archetypes and what are their values? decorated shed vs duck.

writing
I WROTE THE MOST I DID ALL SEMESTER AT THE START OF NOVEMBER. A and i came up with a new set of characters together [kind of they were mildly recycled from a project this summer] and it was super fun to think about their relationship in this new worldbuilding context... now that i'm done with school for the year [my winter break is an extremely lovely two weeks long : ) ] i hope to write a lot more during break but i have the sneaking suspicion that my irl social/familial obligations will be pulling me away from the screen too much. also my phone is fucking broken so i can only type on my laptop LOOOOL
